ART on a COMPUTER --- Revised July 2015

Hello everybody, I am David Finney, and I have been an Electrical Engineer all my life, I was Chief Engineer in a large Company, I had two technical Books published and, more importantly, I developed and wrote a number of Computer Programmes which I supplied to Universities and Colleges around the world, (See internet site  www.orangent.co.uk ).  I am now on a mission to explore what the Computer can do to help children, students and artistic people to easily produce colourful ART PICTURES for themselves, with the computer doing all the hard routine work !.

My first offering was a programme which produced colourful PATTERNS is now called   comart1.exe   , automatically produces pictures one after another, and allows the user to alter and adjust the patterns while they were being drawn so that he/she could produce their own UNIQUE Pictures which they could then Save and Print. This Programme is detailed below and it will be supplied FREE of CHARGE when you receive the latest Programme which is called   comart2.exe. 

This second offering allows the user to produce REAL Pictures, with the computer doing all the difficult work of  drawing the Picture in the correct PERSPECTIVE !!  It allows the user to place items anywhere onto his picture and they will be automatically drawn at the correct size and shape as they would appear to the viewer, for example the following picture was produced in a matter of minutes using this Programme, and it shows a 40 metre square Piazza surrounded by, buildings of different types and sizes and angles, and trees in different positions, alongside is the corresponding Sketch.

Ah! you may say, this means the computer is doing it all ! but this is not the case :- The user has to choose what he wants on the picture,   he/she has to choose the size and orientation of the picture items,   he/she has to compose the picture i.e decide where the chosen items are to be put. It allows the user to use his/her artistic ability to INVENT the picture instead of copying it from real life or from a photograph.

However, if it is the user's aim to paint a picture him/herself then the user can still do this because the programme also produces a sketch of the chosen picture as shown alongside the picture above and this can be printed at any size and painted in Water Colour, Gouashe, Acrylics or Oils, just using the computer's coloured picture as a guide. 

So this Programme :- 

1) Helps you to compose and layout your Picture. 

2) Sorts out the complicated subject of PERSPECTIVE for you instantly wherever  you place an item on your picture.   

3) Gives you a SKETCH of your picture on which you can paint with real paints,

4) Allows you to produce a new colourful, unique picture in MINUTES, not hours and days,

5) Once you have composed your picture you can then automatically redraw it as seen from any VIEWING POINT  i.e from Eyelevel or from a Bird's Eye view, and the picture will still be correctly drawn with changed perspective.

6) The Programme is based on REAL Measurements so that it is possible to see how a real layout will look in 3 dimensions and with real Perspective. The real measurements are shown when any item is placed on the picture and you can set each item on the picture using the real plan dimensions.

7) This first Picture offering concentrates on outdoor scenes and you will be able to put a whole range of buildings onto a background with Hills, Trees, Roads, Hedges, Pavements, etc. It allows for Land and Seaside pictures. Later offerings will cater for other types of picture.

The following examples show the sort of Pictures which can be produced in minutes using this Programme.

This Picture demonstrates what can be done in a few minutes. It shows that the correct Perspective is automatically applied to all items on it. It shows the buildings, trees, platforms, road and flowerbeds contained in the Programme and one of the frames which can be put around any picture. The Items which can be put on a picture include, trees of varying types, a range of buildings, fences, pavements, bridges, hedges, people, animals etc

This picture shows some of the items included in this Programme e.g. the animals, the people, the school building, a number of varied trees, the sky, the ground, the sun, the birds, a road, a fence, the skyline,  a car etc

This picture is call 'SNAP' because it shows the similarity between the animals in their enclosed field and the children in their playground.

This picture is called 'The SEASIDE BALLOON FESTIVAL'  and it shows a  different range of mountains, the graded colour Sea with a number of yachts, a jetty and a bathing area. On land it shows bathing huts, a round pool, a couple of hotels with decorative roofs, a transmission tower ,  flowerbed etc.. And in the air it includes two balloons, birds, clouds, an aeroplane and a sun and a moon. It also shows another of the enclosing frames.

Every Item put on a picture can be selected for size, colour, angle, position as appropriate to the item.

This picture is called 'HOME in a BUTTERCUP FIELD'  and shows a bungalow in the field alongside a river. The field is surrounded with different coloured hedges and it also contains a flock of black and white sheep and a horse. It also shows another of the coloured skies and a sun and clouds, and this time a yellowy green skyline. Like all of the pictures here this only took minutes to produce.

This one is called 'NORTHAMPTONSHIRE'S STONEHENGE' and it shows nine identical vertical towers planted in a 30 metre circle, but, due to perspective they all look different to each other, with the nearest ones looking the tallest and the furthest one smaller, you also see different faces of the towers depending on where they are.

This picture is titled 'The Football Match' and if includes a few more of the Items which can be put on these pictures, e.g. Goals, Lighting Towers, teams with different colour strip, a different frame etc

Each picture can contain up to a total of 100 Items and the list of Items contains groups of Trees, People and animals so that any picture can be complex.

These pictures demonstrate that with it's wide range of Sky and ground choices AND  nearly 50 different items available to be placed on the pictures and each of these can be varied in size, position, orientation, detail, and colour etc ALMOST ANY OUTDOOR PICTURE CAN BE PRODUCED  and because it is so simple to use ANY CHILD OR ADULT will be able to produce his or her UNIQUE PICTURE in a matter of MINUTES using this Programme.

1) Teaching art and in particular, Perspective, in Schools and Colleges, because it is so quick, because it is fun to use, and because it produces such colourful pictures and it does not need messy paints to produce a super result.

The PATTERNS Programme, comart1

The Patterns Programme, called   comart1.exe   is a computer Programme which will produce and display STUNNING, COLOURFUL and ATTENTION GRABBING PICTURES on your computer screen automatically. These Pictures are all UNIQUE and the aim of the exersize is to allow YOU to produce your own pictures and for you to introduce your own artistic abilities into the pictures you produce. 

This is the first programme that I offered under this 'artbycomputer' banner produced PATTERNS continuously and you were able to intervene to alter the patterns and make them unique to yourselves.  The programme will display pictures CONTINUOUSLY one after the other approximately every minute. At the same time the Programme will display YOUR MESSAGES on top of the images to help you sell your products or services, and in this case the Patterns which emerge over about 30 seconds grab peoples attention and then your message can be displayed to achieve it's objective.

Also the Pictures can be SAVED and PRINTED and can make interesting and challenging artwork for wall decoration or for grabbing people's attention.
